UnivSource:  A guide to Higher Education in the US and the rest of the world. Includes Historically Black Colleges & Universities, men's and women's colleges.

General Directories

American Universities:  A list of U.S. colleges and universities, searchable alphabetically, with links to their home pages.

Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada:  Search for Canadian institutions alphabetically by name, by province or territory, or by program of study. Includes scholarship resources.

Braintrack University Index:  Produced in Switzerland, this site contains over 6,900 links. It is especially useful for finding non-U.S. colleges and universities.

California Colleges:  A guide to California colleges and universities, presented by the California Postsecondary Education Commission. Searchable by program offering, accreditation and other variables. Plus information on financial aid and residency requirements.

CampusProgram.com:  Search university and college programs in over 300 areas of study, and by state. Includes the U.S. and Canada. A real plus: program links take you directly to departmental web pages. The site also includes test preparation, career information and more.

Canadian Universities:  A guide to Canadian colleges and universities. Arranged by province. Available in English and French.

College Opportunities On-line:  Search a database of over 9,000 institutions of higher learning. Look for colleges by name, region, type, student body size and much more. Published by the U.S. Department of Education from data gathered by the National Center for Education Statistics.

Ulinks.com:  Lists over 2,200 colleges by state, or alphabetically. Students can also search by category, or get links to financial aid offices. The site also includes trade schools.

Web U.S. Universities, Alphabetic:  Links to the home pages of 4-year colleges and universities, arranged alphabetically. From the University of Texas, Austin.

Web U.S. Universities, by State:  The same list as above, arranged by state.

Directories for Special Groups

The American Indian College Fund:  Links to 31 Tribal Colleges, plus information about students and scholarships.

The National Catholic College Admission Association:  A searchable list of Catholic institutions — both members and non-members of the organization.

College and Character:  "The Templeton Guide: Colleges that Encourage Character Development profiles 405 exemplary college programs in ten categories that inspire students to lead ethical and civic-minded lives."

Hillel Foundation:  Contains a Guide for Jewish Life on Campus that describes Jewish activities at U.S. colleges.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities:  Click on "Members Institutions" for a complete list of all the 118 institutions of the HBCU, "providers of equal educational opportunity with attainment and productivity for thousands of students." Sponsored by the National Association of Equal Opportunities in Higher Education.

Women's College Coalition:  The coalition represents 70 member colleges in the U.S. and Canada. The site presents the benefits of attending an all-women's college, and gives links to member web pages.
